Default Racks ?

Is anyone using this rack or another that they'd like to review?

I have this rack on my bike:

I was conerned about the low weight rating of the stock rack, and I wanted to be able to load it up to go camping. The guy at cycleracks .com wouldn't give me a weight reating, but said it would handle anything I could strap on it. The lower mount goes forward and helps triangulate the whole structure. Seems pretty stout. Then I threw on an old set of Chase Harper small saddlebags to carry more stuff. Here's a shot (sorry it's from so far away) that shows my tent, sleeping bag, mattress pad, etc, plus 1.5 gallons of gas in a Koplin can. Basically everything I needed for a night of dry camping.

I don't have many miles on the setup yet, but so far so good. I woule recommend it.

Good Luck.

I have the Nomad rack from ebay. It fits the 2009's. I like it, I have an old model wolfman bag that I strap to it - works great.

I have the 06 and the stock rack that came with it. I put too much weight on it once, didn't have any problems, but next time I'm going to get some saddle bags in order to get the weight lower on the bike.

Holy smokes! Those are some serious loads. Just add some live chickens and a couple of kids and you would be at home in one of those "work bikes of Asia" pictorials.

I have the Nomd rack from Ebay and am happy with the rack after makeing a couple modifications. First thing I did was shave the tops off the two posts in the center where it bolts onto the top of the fender so they did not stick up above the level of the rack. Then I drilled the holes in those posts out to the depth and diameter of the head of the allen bolts so the allen bolts would be flush with the top. Nothing sticking up. I have some pics on my camera and will add to this post as soon as I can get them on the computer. I also am in search of replacement bolts for the two side connections. The ones that came with the rack are rusting.

I like the rack just wanted to make the top flush and put in some stainless bolts in the sides.
Cheers Jim

^^^^same here......I just purchased a KLX 250s and my first mod was the rack. I like it a lot however when I first saw the hex bolt myself I thought about the potential rust issues.
