Quiet Performance Pipe?

RE: Quiet Performance Pipe?
Do a search for HMF and Bake or Bill Blue, they modified the tip of the HMF and made it relatively quiet if I remember right. The FMF Q4 or pro circuit(?) type 496 would probably be the quietest pipes for this bike. The 496 you'll need a KLX300 header though.

I have a 496 & it is quiet compared to most but now after it is broken in a bit, it is louder than my 300 exhaustI had & I assume it would be louder than the FMF Q4 also. The 496 has no where near the bark of the Muzzy, Big Gun, some Yoshi's I have heard, etc. but if you wanted stealthy I'd look to the 300 muffler first & FMF Q4 second. Or as mentioned, leave it alone entirely. The 496 is a nice compromisie IMHO.

RE: Quiet Performance Pipe?
I don't have any pictures online at the moment but I recently put my home made baffle plate back on my KLX 300 stock exhaust. With just the open end cap the 300 muffler has just too much bark/tinny sound to it for riding very long on pavement. I love the growl when romping through the trails but its obnoxius when you are sitting at 6500-7500 rpm on the pavement. My plate is a 3/16" thick piece of aluminum with a 7/16" hole in the middle and 8 or 10 3/16" holes around it. I enlarged the airbox lid opening slightly and have a 128 main jet in it and I think it was a tad rich even without the endcap as evidenced by my sooty license plate. I noticed a significant drop in sound, and I don't have many miles on it yet but thus far there isn't a very big drop in power, at least not that I can tell. From idle it doesn't pull as quick but once over 5000rpm it pulls nicely. I ran this setup in late 06 and am just now going back to it.
I personally am still thinking about the Q4 but don't know how it compares to my 2 setups.

RE: Quiet Performance Pipe?
When turned out the bike doesn't idle correctly, it loads up and dies from being too rich. Went for a ride today and midway I took the baffle off. Definitely a performance difference, the low end is much better without the baffle, top end not much difference.
