questions on carb rejet and air circulation
I finally got my stuff from ronayers today and tore the bike apart. I got the carb out after about an hour. Questions are these: what are you guys using to plug the holes up where the hoses went for the air circulation system or whatever it is? I want to do this but I do not know what you plug the holes with. Also, how are you getting to the airbox crankcase vent with a drill, there is not a straight shot. Anyone have any advice? Are you loosening the airbox or something? The only problem I've encountered is one screw on the float bowl got stripped but it came out with pliers. Not looking forward to putting it all back, I hope it goes better than what I'm imagining.

RE: questions on carb rejet and air circulation
I used a miscellaneous bypass cap kit available from a local autoparts store - I think the brand was "HELP".
For the crank case breather, you need to do it by hand. While the carb and all that was off, I attached a shop vac hose to the carb inlet pipe (perfect fit for me) and ran it while drilling by hand / pliers to suck out any shavings. Other ideas I've seen are to 1) grease up the bit so the shavings stick to the bit and 2) use a blow torch on the bit and just melt your way through. I did the shop vac. My bike still runs so it must have worked.

thanks for the reply. after further research i found that info out. i like the blow torch idea myself. now my problem is getting the needle in the way it came out. i guess i wasn't paying much attention and now am not sure how the needle/slide/spring all go back together. i'm new at this carb stuff. on my harley, i just threw a main jet in and went. maybe that's why it burps sometimes. thanks again.

The Kawasaki online parts diagrams show the configuration of the needle and spring. They're an invaluable source of good info:

RE: questions on carb rejet and air circulation
thanks bmwhd, i had put it back together. luckily I did it correctly. that's about the only way possible with the spring and all. any other way and the spring is impossible to get squished down without binding.
I just finished my smog system removal and capping. That went really well, pretty easy. just remove crap and put on little rubber caps. a little wd40 to lube them so they'll slide on respective areas.
Now, I'm going to buy a propan torch and do the crankcase vent mod. that looks easier than drilling by hand. I lost my 40 pilot jet, and no dealer had one. so that's where i'm stuck at right now. this isn't so bad after all.
