Ha ha... for longer rides. I don't just commute, but longer rides are far and few between right now.

I got an on/off switch today but it's not weather-proof. I'm going to try a couple other places before I install it.

I finally found a water-proof line interrupter for my USB port. Install was a breeze. It's a simple on/off push button with a rubber cover and sealed underside.

It also has a nice weather proof cover.

When I want to charge my phone off of it, I just plug in the USB adapter and USB cable.
Question --- Could you use that 12v socket to charge bike battery from a battery tender?

Yes, you could install a cigarette lighter male plug on the tender, or build an adapter as I did. Just make sure you get the polarity right, i.e. don't cross the wires!

Yep, what he said^^^. Just make sure the wires you use to hookup the socket are at least the same gauge as the charger or battery tender.

When you wire the socket (female on the bike), the center post at bottom is pos +, and outer walls of socket are neg -. Most of the plugs you can buy (male end connected to tender/charger) have a fuse on that center end plunger. Some come appart, some push that nipple/plunger in and twist to remove or change fuse. It's spring loaded. That will be the pos + coming off your tender/charger. Just to be clear....

Not knowing everyone's skill level or what they know, I explain as if you know nothing. This way, everyone understands for future referrence. Just to be clear...LOL...
