Default Questions about Performance Upgrades

Searched for different types of performance upgrades and it looks like a new sprocket, jetting and pipe may be what I'm looking for.

Can someone in layman terms tell me what I exactly need to tell my dealer what I need and any name brands would be helpful as well as I'm a complete newb to bikes.....

Just curious, about how much should I be looking at for parts and labor?

Thanks.

Get a slip on for the 250S (any, about the only difference is build quality, price & noise). 300 pipes open more possibilities but then you need the header or a complete system. Since you want simple I would recommend a FMF Q4 directly for the 250S, you can also get a bigger headpipe if the budget allows or add it later. About $250-300 for the slip on & another $180 for the header. Remove the entire airbox lid (free). Buy & install a DynoJet jet kit (about $60). If you have an 09 might as well get that one although the 300 one will work also. Do everything at the same time. Go to the HMF website & follow the carb instructions to get to the carb then follow the DynoJet instructions from there.

Then ride the bike & decide if you need gearing depending on how you ride, it will always be a compromise, especially on a small bore bike. If you highway alot the stock gearing is pretty much required. If you are more off road you could drop a tooth in the front or add 3 or so to the rear.

Do the free mods first. I used factory carb parts bought on-line for ~$35. Then I add a JT Sproked 46 tooth rear and a new chain. This has worked very well for me and was relatively cheap (okay, the chain was a premium one and expensive but, everything else was pretty cheap).

I also liked the used KLX-300 factory header and muffler I got for ~$80.

For less then $300 you can really put a lot of bang into your KLX-250S. Do these cheap mods first before you spend big bucks on a slip on muffler or big bore kit.

yep, almost payed more for my bikes full exhuast then my cars.

bike car
header 200 200
muffler/catback 200 300
total (just over) 400 500

i dont get it, the bike piping it like 3 feet max with one cyclinder header, my cars is about 5-6 feet of catback and 4 cyclinders. car price also includes me replacing the muffler from a crome to blacked out muffler with lower noise out put, and replacing the 18 inch resenator with a 24 inch. atleast both my toys sound SwEeT (to bad the car dont run though, but ive been working on it).
