Question on racks with fuel for KLX250S
#14
By TAT, I mean the Trans American Trail. It is a motorcycle dirt road route from eartern Tennesse to Oregon. I and buddy road from TN to CO last year. I was on a KLR 650 and he rode a large BMW. It is a wonderful ride with great scenery and people.
We decided to find smaller bike for the western half, as the mountains and desert sands await us. We are both in our 60 and not as strong as years past, so picking up our bikes is an issue. I sold the KLR650 (great bike) to purchase the 2006 KLX250S. Looking to get further range that the standard gas tank with it rejetted carbo and KLX muffer.
Figured I would purcased the 3.7 gallon Acerbis tank and a rack with 1gallon of gas and another gallon of water with small ultralite camping gear.
Thanks for your replies to my questions

I'm with ya on the TAT now, thanks. Went on the site http://www.transamtrail.com/ Seems like the KLX should do perfect other than packing a ton of stuff. I've driven the White Rim in Canyonlands a few years ago in a Ford Explorer 4x4 (rented). Had a camp site about mid way. Fantastic. Can only imagine what some of the rest must be like. Be sure and post trip reports.

Hi Dynobob,
Does the Outback rack mount only to the stock tool bag points and the passenger foot pegs? To mount the Wolfman bags did you put on the Wolfman ring adaptors?
Thanks,
Salinger

The rack mounts to the footpegs, tool bag, and seat bolt locations. Also has a crossover bar under the tail light. I attached four D rings to each frame w/ self wrapping velcro for the Wolfman straps to hook thru.
