Default Question for Bad Bear

Hello Bad Bear,
What's your take on a good motor oil for the KLX? As a certified motorcycle mechanic, you must have developed an informed opinion.
Thanks.

Default RE: Question for Bad Bear

Hi Oil is kinda tough there are so many and I really never hear about failure due to oil just lack of[:@] I have used Silkolene Semi Synthetic 4-Stroke Motor Oil in my atvs and in my 1428cc Nitrous Drag Bike I used Golden Spectro 4-Synthetic with very good results. I change my oil more often than most. But after 50 runs on the dragbike and oil changes every 8 to 10 passes the motor showed no sign of wear. And that is with serious abuse on it. I think the semi Synthetic is fine for just regular riding and I think it is better for the tranny than standard motor oil. I've have messed with different viscosity oil with different times of the year and I really stay away from heavy weight oil. Just keep it clean and up to the full level and you will be good to. Hope I have helped some with my experiances.

Default RE: Question for Bad Bear

I just checked my current oils I am running a full Synthetic in my Rotax 800 v twin and it is 5w - 40w and in my Big bore Single cyl 4x4 I'm running Silkcolene ATV oil just a standard oil with 10w-40w weight. IMO the automatic 4x4s are not run near as hard as the Sport quads or Trail or Motocross bikes. The trannys and clutch in these bikes are much harder on the oil and I feel they should at least have semi synthetic used in them. I use Full synthetic in the rotax it has higher comp. and runs a bit hotter .

Again you can't go wrong with Golden Spectro in any form but you will see a differance with a synthetic oil. I meant to say I bought a new YAM YFZ 450 and tricked it all out. It is a very High performance atv and the shifting was very hard couldn't get into 3rd sometimes. I changed the oil to Golden Spectro Semi Synthetic and it shifted like a dream. It costs more but the KLX will not take much so what s it hurt. Hope this helps
