Default A question about suspension mods.

For those of you who have had your suspension done:

I am considering having it done pretty soon. The stock rear spring is okay for my weight, is there any advantage in having the rear done on a new '09, or is doing the front enough?

I'd apreciate some input.

Thanks
Craig

If you're under 85KG wet, then yes the rear should be OK for trail/light enduro type riding. Fronts should be increased for your weight unless you're 60KG wet.

Depends on how you ride.

I ride trails fire roads and enduro.

Is the suspension work just a matter of replacing the springs or is there more to it than that?

You can just do springs. You can also revalve, use different wt oil, set your forks higher or lower in the clamps, lots of fine tuning stuff. Setting your sag is a good place to start. On my o6 I put in stiffer springs and an Ultra-Max valve kit at the same time, all from Moto-Pro. I can easily feel the spring imrovement, as others have, too. The ride is better balanced. Fork springs are pretty easy to change. Get a decent cap wrench. There's a post of the "swap" on here. Guy at Moto-Pro is very helpfull in getting you set up. But yeah, new springs is all you really need. The stock front are too soft in regards to the rear. Keep in mind that I have an 06.

Back to your simple question.... Yes, that's all you really need to do. The stock front springs are way too soft in regards to the rear. Keep in mind that I have an 06.

start simple.. front springs. with another set of hands it shouldnt take more than 30-40 minutes to do.. theyll cost you around 100-125. i did mine and it made a world of difference. back spring wasnt even necessary. i weigh 170 lbs.

Here's how easy it is. Read this a few times while your waiting for the springs to come in then have at it.

His thread doesn't cover any revalving it's just the spring itself. I'm #200 with all my stuff on and the .44kg springs work fine.

The best money I spend. there is alot beside springs. I got my front and rear revalved and it's awesome I can use the front brakes without a dive. Mission Cycle in Barrie Ontario did a great job.
