Default question about New bike

Been riding my 2009 klx250s. Has alittle over 700 miles on it now. My question, every once in a while when down shifting it seems to get stuck. Sometimes I can let out the throttle and get it to go, but if I have to stop in a hurry and it gets stuck, it sucks. I asked the dealer and he said to give it more time to break in. What does everyone else think?

On a fun note, I took the bike to an experienced riders course, just for fun and practice. There were crotch rockets, cruisers, Harleys, and a big victory touring bike. Everyone was jealous of the KLX cause I could turn this thing tigher than anyone else.

it's common for any bike. let the clutch out a smidge and it will go into the proper gear. the '09 doesn't do it as bad as the '06 I had however. every bike does it, don't worry.

Thanks for the info. I noticed in your sig that it says crankcase mod and drilled slide. Can you tell me what the two of them are? So far all I did to the bike was change the oil at 350 miles, trim down the rear hanging fender, and put an ultra brite bulb in the front. I plan on exhaust, jets, and airbox mod this winter. Have to read up more on what else to do to the carb with needles and such.

I think you might find the "star shifter" mod threads insightful. What happens is essentially two gear teeth hit point to point. I put pressure on the gear shift (gently) and gently let the clutch out at idle. This technique will take from top gear to 1st easily in under 30 seconds at a stoplight or after a really harsh stop on the street.

And yes, shifting will get a little better when the motorcycle gets broken. Fresh oil helps shifting too. How often are you supposed to change the oil on these things?

I dont know about the oil changes, I changed it at 350 because of the break in. Then Ill do it again at 1000, then between 1500 and 2000 Im switching to synthetic. Royal purple!!

Not bein a jerk but change that filter and oil..Super Cheap Mod..$15?.

My 1st 09 filter was yuck....Particles all over..Took maybe to 900 miles before the filter stayed clean.....I change the filter every 400 and oil at 200 miles..1st 1000 miles I went through the stock filter and 2 others..Drain the oil everytime...2nd 1000 miles not so much but happy I did earlier..

As for these 09 clutch packs...Im not sold...I havent yet found my perfect clutch lever to pressure feel...Come to think about it if I had that perfect clutch how sweet this bike would be................

do not do anything to the "star shifter" reference, the '09 has tranny updates that override that mod or any other tranny mod. the '09 tranny was beefed up and reground to be better, and from personal experience from an '06 KLX250S, it shifts smoother.

as far as my mods, just do a search. I don't want to sit here and retype everything step-by-step when it has been talked about millions of times. the search function is your friend and my words are plastered all over it. good luck.
