Default Question about MX goggles

I've had my helmet for 2 years. It's a full face DS helmet and it's a little beat up, since I use it everyday. I am getting a MX helmet and googles this time, but I am wondering how the googles are on rainy days. My concern is visibility. With the full face, the wind helps wiping the water. I am thinking it is the same with googles, but since they are not as curved as the visor, I want to know how it is. I just don't wanna buy something that I won't be able to use anytime I ride.

The rain will not shed off of goggles like a visor. They are more flat and not as much wind hits them, that being said i have used goggles in the rain and dont really recall there being a visibility issue.

FYI i bought Smith goggles that are clear in the dark but the sun turns them dark like sun glasses. I love them.

I have both goggles and a DS helmet so I have a bit of experience with both.
I don't think you'll have visibility problems in the rain, but in heavy rain, you'll get some water sneaking in between the goggles and the helmet. Your lower face will also remain unprotected at higher speeds.
Another issue is when it gets hot and you're working up a sweat. Goggles will tend to fog up more than a DS visor will.
If you are primarily on road, I'd personally stick with the DS helmet with face shield.

I have that one helmet that looks like a dual sport but still has a face shield

been using it for at least 5 years the longest helmet I ever used
and I love it
Only negative on this brand is the tinted shield cost me $100 back when I first got it, not sure if its lower now
and the top sun visor is so small it doesnt block the sun so I have painted the top 1-1/2 of the visor black to block some of the sun for me
and the tinted visor is so light I have to wear sunglasses inside it too

But ive seen other companies make cheaper copies of my helmet now too some around $150
Im pretty sure mine was around $400+

the other day tried one of my old dirtbike helmets and the top visor caught the wind so bad on the freeway I had to hold my head down so far
and I used to ride with those and goggles back in the day on my first bike which was also a dual sport

Not sure if it was just a freak windy day or im just so used to a different helmet now
but no way im riding with a dirtbike helmet on the freeway again

I ride in all weather with goggles, but I have a little squeegee on my Triple Digit gloves. Works but can scratch the lens when the water isn't clean (like in Winter). Make sure you can replace the lens and buy an extra lens right off the bat.
And over 60mph, a little head turn will clear the lens, mostly.

Cool. Thank you for the help, guys.

EMS, what Smith model you got? Remember how much? I was thinking on getting 2 googles - clear lens and dark lens - for day (going to work) and night (going back home). So, the Smith would be perfect.

All I've ever ridden in was a DS and a set of Oakley goggles. Cold in the winter, hot right now (its not even summer yet dang!) Wind protection is suggested for your ears, rain is nice, unless you travel above 50 mph in which cold rain feels like someone is stabbing your face with a needle, you can look down, but then you can't see in front of you haha.

The goggles themselves work great.

Google shopping is your friend.

I actually replaced the lense for this year, it was only 18$

What you really mean to say is that the raindrops that hit your face sting like bees, hurt like heck. That is why I bought a dual sport helmet - for the shield in the rain. I got some very close fitting wrap around prescrip glasses to wear with the face shield up when riding slow back/off road, but can flip the shield down if needed.

If it wasn't for rain and some cold morning/evening riding in the spring/fall, I'd only do the MX helmet. I use it on the streetbike on hot days instead of the full face streetbike helmet.
