Chit chat threads get missed in most cases. it is when there is a bit of digression in a forum thread that it leads to some interesting topic. If someone wants to start another thread, fine, but it's not like these are thousands of posts long. Few ever reach a page or two with maybe 50 quickly scanned posts. So what is lost? Something that might be interesting in spite of not quite being on the original topic? It's kind of like icing and sprinkles on donuts - it ain't donut, but it's pretty good on the donut in most cases.

You want a real struggle to do research, try looking through the over 10,000 posts in the ADVrider Long Term KLX250 thread. Try to follow something there. With so many threads the actual topic thread could be buried by scores and scores of threads from years ago or buried in the one live thread a few hundred pages back. At least here most of it is recent enough or kept alive with off the topic bits at times.

I am a member and moderator, maybe even the owner (I think the late original owner "gave" it to me but I was never quite sure and I can't ask Bryan now) at the Yahoo KLX650 group. It really stays on topic and I have to tell you it is boring as heck. Not much action either. Great technical forum, but not much happening due to lack of conversation that might go off topic, which disappeared some years back, probably due to the difficulty of using the forum. Still the best forum for the bike, but not lively by any stretch.

Want to kill off a forum, stop the digression and take any enjoyment out of it.

One last note. One of the most popular forums in the world for motorcycles, ADVrider, has almost every fair sized thread go off topic and often back on topic. Few complain, but those who are there know it is nature of the beast, still being an excellent source for information as well as shop talk.

One that is in constant drift is the darksider thread. Seems few can resist the bait of the never ending topic.

One that drifted here a bit was the MCM thread.

Agreed. The MCM thread got so far off I stopped following it all together. That one could have used some mod intervention.

I attempt to take the better threads around here and link them into the FAQ thread, which is messy by all accounts, but still a repository.

Ninety+ percent of what goes on here at kawasakiforums is in the KLX250 forum. This place used to be active with other bike interests, but they left for other tracks. I've only met one active member in real life (TNC), but many of the rest of you feel like internet 'family.'

Mark - you mentioned the ADVRider KLX250 thread. ONE thread for everything KLX, except for a straggler thread here and there. Much of it is repeated over here, but not all.

Oddly enough it is not ONE thread. There are several others, but with no action (often staying just on topic) they end up further and further down the list until they are lost because nothing is being discussed on them anymore. So only the one gets much traction.

Yes, that's what I meant by a "straggler here and there"
