Default Q on measuring valve clearance

Hi all. I have my valve cover off and am ready to measure the clearances.

The Q is how do you get the feeler gauges in there?

Any tips and tricks?

Thanks

make sure you are at tdc...you have the correct thinner feelers...should slide in starting with your thinner and working your way up until one feels a little difficult to get in...

Elvie, I have to ask this question. Do you have a shop manual to do this procedure? Have you done a valve clearance check on an engine before?

true...make sure you know what you a doing...make sure you scrape off all the factory silicone....light amount of sealer around the edge and little heavier on the half moons...put the valve cover back on....read more instructions and have a place you know sell individual shims or have a shim kit ready...make sure you use white out or nail polish to mark cam chain and cans before removal...

Thanks Guys.

I have the correct shop manual and proper feeler gauges, and have done tappets before on an MG a number of years ago.

I believe I am at TDC with the crank rotated CCW until the sideways T is aligned with the notch at the top.

The only easily accessible cam is the LHS intake and there seems to be no clearance with any feeler gauge - even the really tinfoil widths.

Tomorrow I will take the bike to a local Kawi shop and see how they measure the clearances - already arranged.

Ensuring the correct vale clearances is a precursor to installing the CyclePro 330 kit sitting in the garage - for which I have a mechanic friend to help with.

So a Q within a Q - once the valves are correctly adjusted, them installing the 330 kit does not affect their setting - can you confirm this for me.

Which size feeler wont fit? How many miles on the motor? I just did mine at 12500kms and only the left intake was on the tight clearance 0.1#mm (0.004#Inch) The rest were at mid to loose.

I tried the .003 in (my smallest) on the LHS inlet and it would not fit.

The bike is 2009 with 8000K - 98% dirt. It starts and runs well.

Installing a big bore won't affect the cylinder head or the valve clearances.

.003 is too tight you will have to measure shim and drop down in size and re measure clearance.

Yes - too tight - out of spec.

We will know how the other clearances are tomorrow. I was hoping that with low mileage there would be no adjustment required.
