I've been thinking about doing the same with mine. I thought there was a thread here where one of the regulars stripped his bike down as light as he could, but I can't find it.
My only regret is that I didn't look for a plated KLX 300 instead, so instead of selling mine and buying one, I could probably make mine a E start 300 with less hassle.
My first thoughts are speedo/tach, light, battery (already done) and wiring.

I'm just trying to be creative and low budget minded. I have the suspension sorted to my liking, the FMF pipe is a little loud for me but is going to stay regardless.
I don't have power issues so my fat *** is not the problem. I'm just thinking what is so different from a MX bike that makes them so much lighter besides the starter and battery.
Obviously the DOT crap and extra copper wiring to power all the DOT junk.......
The fact that I don't even own a bike might disqualify me from saying this, but I think that one of the reasons that MX bikes are so much lighter is that much more exotic, weight saving compounds are used in their manufacturing. Of course, that may also be why an MX bike is twice the cost of a KLX 250.

I do. Works for me. First, find the switch. Then find the other one.

I put a big lock on the rotor. If they want the bike, they'll pick it up and put it in the pickup.

Battery - get a li one, and exhaust, and tires.. dont use UHD tubes, handlebars, mirrors, gas tank, I think plastic tank is lighter, uhm.. and sprocket.. get alum one.. that should save off 15 lbs

Someone's checked before and I think the Acerbis plastic tank is actually a little heavier than the stock tank and shrouds.
