Default Putting the KLX on a diet

Now that i have the Big Pig DR650 for those extended rides and leisurly trails, i am thinking of stripping some weight off the KLX and see what i can get it down to. Any suggestions besides:
take off the luggage rack
turn signals
drill big holes in the seat pan
remove all frame junk like helmet lock
maybe a KX fender with lighter LED tail light
lighter head lamp
alluminum rims
aluminum spoke nipples
what else guys??? lighter battery???

Yes - eat less it is a cost effective.

I come from the bicycle world and I first do the rotating things. So wheels and tires make are great for the rotating mass. Maybe an aluminum rear sprocket (I am not sure the weight savings).

I would then try and lower the center of mass. Battery, exhaust, rack, gas tank etc.

I would like to build up some wheels myself but that sounds like $ since I would keep the set I have.

I can understand opening the KLX up some, some basic mods on the suspension and other basic things for rider comfort but the KLX is not a KTM and was never meant to be.

I didn't see new exhaust(muffler) on your list , so I'll assume you've already changed it.

i'm not trying to make it a KTM or a YZ125 at 208 lbs, although it would be nice!!!!
I'm just trying to be creative and low budget minded. I have the suspension sorted to my liking, the FMF pipe is a little loud for me but is going to stay regardless.
I don't have power issues so my fat *** is not the problem. I'm just thinking what is so different from a MX bike that makes them so much lighter besides the starter and battery.
Obviously the DOT crap and extra copper wiring to power all the DOT junk.......

Gary, I wouldn't recommend the alloy spoke nipples. They seem to get problematic in short time even with good spoke prep coating.

I sure wouldn't use alloy spoke nipples, either. If you want to fool around with the wheels for fun, you could return to a slightly smaller gauge spoke, but, that's an awful lot of work, for very little return.
