Hey Danny I was going to edit my post, but I guess I'll just say I didn't mean to sound like I was sitting in a corner crying some where. I guess I just really love my bike, and I sometimes get a little over zealous about what it means to me. I guess the best advice we should all be giving is like was already said and that is each rider has to see for himself if this or any other bike is the right one. From now on I will try not to sound so excited about the KLX, but its hard not to. I hope You don't come back and flame me, I don't really want to have any negative feelings between us. And I left the post above so that others can see how to handle a situation if it does come up. Peace man.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]
Good points made there deej. It's cool. My goal is to respect everyone on this forum, except Iowaguy.

To be honest with you, I'd sure like to ride a modified klx to see the difference. If only I could get these terds in Michigan to come out riding with me.

Thanks for the lesson man, I guess I need to reflect on what I say before I post. Its funny we all have trouble saying stuff we wished we hadn't, but I bet if we read what we were typing before we hit that OK button we might be editing our posts before anyone saw it. Again I swear I didn't mean what I said, well except that my KLX is AWESOME!!! Whoops I did it again. Later man, I wish you lived closer to me, I would really like to get another opinion about how my bike's power is. You know some unbiased opinion. [sm=smiley20.gif]

If you review the bikes spec sheet and are looking at the KLX250S with the understanding that it's a 249cc street legal, 4-stroke, dual sport bike then you should not be disappointed with it at all.

If you're trying to keep up with your 18 year old kid on a race ready CR250R then you're just an idiot and deserve whatever you get.

I own a couple of large bore dirt (CR500) and street bikes (ZZR1200) currently and have rode bikes my whole life, I appreciate the little KLX for precisely what it is and what it does, it's an absolute no-brainer to toodle around on and the lack of neck-snapping power makes it a real pleasurable and fun mount for those times when you don’t feel like having your arms tore out of their sockets.
If it weren't for the KLX then an older KLR, Super Sherpa or an XT225 would fit the bill fine for me; just not look nearly as sharp.

I even have a 2000 KE100 that I ride to work (15 miles each way) from time to time........ no ego problem here just havin some fun before I die.

That's probably true! I know I've said some crap I wish I could take back. lol I know you mean well, so it's cool. [sm=icon_cheers.gif] Yeah, we live pretty far from each other, but you couldride that KLX to Michigan if you want. [sm=trust_me.gif] < Kidding, but that's a cool smiley face anyway!

That CR500 gets pretty nasty I'm sure. About fifteen years ago my brother had a YZ490 whichwas insanely fast. I remember it was always breaking down though for some reason.

A well tuned DRZ400 can be a handful sometimes too.
You also bring up another very good point, the little KLX isn’t capable of tearing itself to shreds like the large bore thumpers do at regular intervals.

Now that's refreshing as heck to know!

No one else I know is on this one.

Just so everyone doesn't draw the conclusion that I'm a real dunder head.... My friend with the KLX250s is now in Michigan and won't be out this year. He'll do FL instead. (I mentioned this already in a previous post.... but maybe those who have suggested that I try out his bike missed the comment about his present location).

Went to a 2nd dealer in Roseburg, OR today, they have 8 in stock at this time of the year! They had a good price on the KLX ($4299) but they wanted to steal my 2005 DRZ. The blue book high is $3920 and the low is $2960. They offered me $2,200, (or thereabouts). I had a better deal in Medford, OR at $2,141 & my DRZ. You should see the "Z"! It looks new and only has 2468 miles on it.

The search continues, however.[8D]

Just echoing what most others have said. You can reach 75mph, but that's pushing it, unless you get the mod bug and end-up throwing on a big bore kit. I plan on going witheither a 315 or 331cc large bore kit bynext summer. I have no doubt that it will maintain the speeds youspeak of, without problem, once that is done. Somepeople just don't likeplaying with their bikes though. I that's your sentiment, than I'drecommendstaying with something in the 400ccclass. We rag on DRZ's a lot around here because it's really the only othermainstream, dependable, less maintenance intensive dual sport, but actually it's a pretty decent ride.
