A Prospective New Owner

RE: A Prospective New Owner
Thanks again to ZX1100F1, JSAC, DEEJ, & to VFRPILOT!
Like I said, this forum is outstanding! The members are so very helpful. Thanks!! I feel that the KLX250s is really the bike that I should, and want to get.
It really 'bummed me out' to see my previous XT225 under the butt of my buddy, (to whom I sold it last year). He out rode me all day long in the White Mountains OHV trials in California. [:@]
His nimble XT225 never failed him, but my tall, heavy, wide & over powered for the trails, DRZ seemed willing to burn up the road but lumbered through the tough stuff!.It was tough negotiating some of the narrow paths between the trees and through the multiple hair pin turns, followed by 8" uphill powder through yet even more trees. As a matter of fact, Bob came back twice in a span of less than 25 feet to help me out from under the damned thing.
That's when I made the executive decision to change.... we only go around once, and I'm already 71. The money for mods is no problem.
Thanks for the positive comments relative to moving along at 75 mph. That's what I needed to know.

Welcome Rod, since I am probably the senior member with the KLX I thought I would chime in here.Being the senior citizen of the forumdoesn't count. :-) I bought mine back in November of 05. It had been nearly 25 years since I had a two wheeled woods machine and I have to say don't let anyone tell you that you will be disappointed with the KLX. Why not? It's only your opinion that he'll be satisfied, but other people feel he may be disappointed. A few mods and you will be hanging on to the bars with all you got. You know, I've heard you saycrap like this before, and I can't imagine why you feel this way. I'm not implying that the bike with some modifications doesn't perform better. But seriously, "hanging on to the bars with all you got"? lol Like Dave said, you can try the one your friend has. Best advice I've heard so far. I'm not sure why he hasn'ttried this already. What mods has he done to his bike?Who cares?Hopefully his friend hasn't done any mods so he can get a true representation ofwhat he'll be purchasing. I could take a ride on Ricky Carmichael's bike, but would that tell me howa Suzukireally performs? Gear and exhaust changes and jetting ($500-$1000 for a full pipe, new sprokets and chain, and jetting. Not everyone wants to mod a brand new bike) and you will have a true Dual Sport bike that will not disappoint you....I promise.Again, consider the source. I don't think I've seen anyone heresupport this bike more thanyou. I have 6300 miles and counting. That's 5800 more than Iowaguy, yet you'd think he engineered the bike and built it himself based on his "knowledge". lol I have the 13-45 sprockets and it absolutely rips it up ????Really???? By what standards?, and I can still do 60 down the road without feeling like the bike is revving too high. I'm 6-1 and pushing 260 and it still throws me around. No offense man, but goddamn.Howbig of asissy are you? I'm sure your bike is decent, but throws you around? Tryjumping on a 250 2-stroke or a450 off road bike. You'll die of a heartattack before hitting second gear. I am so glad I ended up with this bike. Then it was a good decision for you, but don't sendsomeone else the wrong idea about this bike. No regrets here. See, you have no regrets, but I regretted my decisionten minutes after I left the dealer. That doesn'tmean I didn't like the bike for what it was, but it was not at all what I was looking for so I regretted the decision to buy it. I was ok with the bike, but I'm much happier with my new bike.

...and now some good advice:

I have found that dealers (salesmen) are STUPID! Every time that I have went in to buy a bike, I have pretty much decided before I go in what it is that I want. I know my reasons and that should be good enough. But they have always tried to talk me into larger or different bikes. (usually what they have the most of) When I bought my KLX they tried to talk me into a DRZ. When I bought my wifes TW200 they tried to talk me into a CRF230. With the KX250 their idea was a RMZ.
So don't listen to your salesman, listen to your good sense!
For me the KLX is very easy to control and "throw around" on the trails. That is exactly what I was after. I really wanted a 250 that handled like a 125. The KLX pretty much does that!
You really need to ride your other options and then decide.
Good luck! And we're looking forward to having you in the "family"

The KLX250s is agood bike. It's inexpensive, fairly light, looks good, and cruises nicely through the trails. However, it has very little power and the suspension isquite spongy. I'm sure the motor and suspension could be modified to suit most people's needs, but why bother? Obviously, it depends on what you're looking for since everyone rides at their own pace. I'm just telling you that I thought I would love the bike butwas disappointed. I wasn't really interested in doing mods, but if you don't mind, then you'll quite possibly be happy on the klx250s.Have you consideredbuying an off road bike and getting it plated. It would cost around $200 for the parts to do so. The ease of getting a plate varies from state to state. Anyway, good luck with your decision. Let us all know what you choose to do.

RE: A Prospective New Owner
Whether or not you're being attacked is relative I guess. I would expect you to say something like that, but I didn't really think it was an attack. So, are you going to start throwing your 'I'm the moderator'threats around now? It wouldn't really matter anyway considering I could sign on here as another name in a second. And for the record, I'm not the only person who has criticized your opinions about the klx250. I've read yourposts in other forums as well where the same thing has happened. You think I'm attacking you, but I'm merely disagreeing. Apparently that's not allowed when the other person is the moderator. Is that right? I apologize for saying the word sissy, but Ineededto convey my meaning. Deej, I very disappointed that you'd resort to 'I'm the moderator' rather than just engaging in a debate with me.
