Two months ago, roughly, the shop in Pueblo, COsold a new 2007 for $3,999. Not exactly the midwest, but close. Shop in Ohio has been trying to sell one for $4,255 for a few months now. Again, not midwest, but closer than Florida. Place in OK has a new 2007 KLX300 listed for $4,000 (if they had a 250, presumably it would be less expensive) -- again, not IA, but not far from the midwest. Didn't see any ads from NE or KS. Saw one in Iowa City for $4,600. Good luck.

My question is how can they afford to let them go that cheap? That way below dealer cost on the bike. I can see it on a trade in thats used but not a brand new bike.
Carrying inventory costs a business money and impacts working capital turns (and other metrics). At some point, you need to convert inventory to revenue ... either to get it off the books or to get some positive cash flow that you can use to pay the bills (maybe both). A business only has so much money to work with and it would be better, at some point, to have $3,800 in cash than $4,000 in inventory. There may also be factory to dealer incentives and holdbacks that help offset the losses.

my cap for any used one is no more than $3000. I won't buy a new one unless it's the '09 simply because I've already did it and been there and think it would be foolish to pay new price for the same bike I bought back in April 2006 and sold dumbly.[&o]

that's not bad compared to prices 18 mos ago, but nowadays it seems very high considering what others have said they've paid. My cap for a new "old" KLX is $4000 otd.

New is new ,is there something wrong with it?Probably not but many people seem to think they need to have the newest thing out.I bought mine as a leftover and it was $400. lower than the 07 I looked at and there was only a 2 month difference in build date.

In my case the price was what it was & unless I could make a weekend road trip & get a bike cheaper ( without any bait & switch or hidden feesby the dealer) I got the bike cheaper than any other dealers in 50 miles. As long as I had the opportunity, I want the newest bike in their inventory. Unless I would be saving $$$ on a last year model or getting a break, I want what I want & don't mind paying for it if necessary. God nows I have paid for many things in my life & not gotten what i thought I was getting.

EX: A bought a Yahama outboard for 2k thinking it was a 06. After driving 1+hrs to pick it up, I find it's a leftover 03. The design hasn't changed from 03-06 but when I insured the boat & gave the model number the agent said in case of a claim I would get less due to the age even though it was brand new.
I would have paid the $250 difference to another dealer had I known.
