Poor Man's Integrated Handguard Mirrors
Less is more, especially off road and when it comes to bolt-on accessories. Mirrors are one of the first things to get snapped off.
A couple of the brand-name handguard manufacturers have begun selling mirrors kits that tuck in behind the guards. Unfortunately, I don't like the appearance of their guards, the mirrors seem flimsy, and the all-in costs of ~$100-~$200 are more than I am prepared to spend.
My solution was to grab a set of $40 handguards, a pair of $20 bar end mirrors, and fabricate a little aluminium bracket myself.
I chose the mirrors based on their sturdiness, their good optics, and their small size. They are slightly convex so they give the same field of view as a larger mirror, but they don't make it too difficult to pick out objects in the far background. I just disassembled them and discarded the bits I didn't need.
I am sure many others have come up with something similar before me, but if this gives any cheap folks like me some ideas, then I'm glad to help!

nice fab work!
I got these little bar end mirrors off ebay for like $22 for the pair. I then had to file the end ball clamps to allow the mirrors to fold all the way out. Drilled and bolted w/7mm bolts it was super easy, and I love them. be sure to loctite or silicone all the little allen bolts.

Thanks!
It's a bit of an overstatement to refer to what I did as "fabrication". It was more just a monkey with a hammer, a hacksaw, and a 6-pack of beer!

Hey, I bought the X-moto for less than I could find anyone willing to sell me a comparable KLR, XR or DR for. A poor boy's gotta do what a poor boy's gotta do!
