Rick - sounds about right to start with at your elevation from what I've seen from others at that elev - but they should chime in too. What are you doing with the airbox? Stock, larger snorkel, snorkelectomy, remove lid, or ?

Some have picked up a larger snorkel. Don't remember which bike it's from, but you should find a reference with a little searching. Maybe off a KDX as listed on Bill Blue's site?

Its a KDX snorkel. I ended up cutting the top off mine and using it as a duct so I don't hear the noise coming out of the airbox. The bike runs better with out the lid on but its too noisy for me.

Got it done and all I can say is WOW, what a difference especially off road single track. Throttle is so crisp. Mods were well worth it. Oh and by the way it even starts lol.
128 main jet, slide drilled, choke drilled.018, FMF Q4 slip on, kouba screw 2.5 turns. Im at 300-500ft in theTexas piney woods. Really a big change. Thanks for all the information. Rick

Interesting. I'm at about 7000 ft and my jets are just about one size smaller than what I see are being run down in the lowlands. Mine's a 250, in the process of being turned into a 351, and up until now I've been happy with a 125 main and a 35 pilot. I've done the airbox thing and the pipe thing so it breathes pretty well. For the now I'm going with a 130/38 combo for the 351 but based on, judging from, TNC's comment I may end up doing a 128/35. Or maybe stay the same. We'll see.

EDit: For me the stock needle has been working fine. I shimmed it up with a thin washer (can't recall the thickness) a la the KLR 22¢ mod.

I just had to find out, so, I exchanged my 35 Pilot for a 40 on my 331. The decel pop is gone, and it's just a burble now. Kouba screw was turned out 4 with the 35, now it's just about 1 turn out. That tells me a 38 would probably be about perfect for my setup. Oh, well, I rarely get up to 10000+ feet, so, maybe I'll be OK with a 40.

What is a snorkelectomy?
How is it done?
Will it give more or less air flow than a KDX200 snorkle?
Thanks

It's removing the L-shaped "snorkle" from the top of the air box. Take off the seat, grab the snorkle, and work it out of there by pulling up. You get a bit less resistance to air flowing into the box with no snorkle than if you have the KDX200 snorkle...but, you also have more intake noise.
