Pelican case

Pelican case
I picked this up at my Airgas and I thought it would fit. It's a 1400 model.
I could not find anything to mount the thing at the hardware store, but
on the way out I spotted some ss eyelets. It worked out well for fast
removal if necessary. I could use wing nuts instead on the nylocs
I have now. I just opened the eyelets up to make them a hook.

RE: Pelican case
There is actually a clamp that is wrapped with a rubber grommet, I forget what they are called, but basically its a one hole strap. That's what Todd and I and some others used. Man I wish I could remember what they were called. Adel clamp that's the ticket.
Tod was the first one to install the case, perhaps he can share the link from the original install, I couldn't find it.

RE: Pelican case
I looked for those but the hardware store did not stock them. I have used them for years, but this way is fast way to remove the whole thing and run my other bag if I want. The whole rack would rip off before it moved. Maybe not a good thing!! I use some plastic tubing
to spare the paint.

RE: Pelican case
They are called Adel clamps and any hardware or automotive store will have them.
The original thread with the mounting pics was actually posted on KLR650.net and was lost in their recent database corruption. Perhaps Deej has some pictures?

Todd & Others,
Here is the link from your post on the Uber-Thread on Advrider.

For what is is worth, I went a slightly different way and used carriage bolts coming up from the bottom with rubber & metal washers at pretty much the same placement as you have them on your clevis pins. I don't have a Dremel tool, so I knew I would not be able to cut down the clevis pins to a decent size after installation. The square portion underneath the cap on the carriage bolt pulls into the Adel so that it is not exposed.
I can't quite see in his pics, but it looks like Scott V has a secure solution that is readily removeable. I like the idea of that. I thought about implementing Brian's tie-down idea, but I use my bike as a commuter, so that was not secure enough. I could just see someone popping off the tie-down and walking away with my nice Pelican case with my rain gear and bike docs.
Anyway, it's all good. I am glad to see someone with another Pelican 1400. I know most folks go for the 1200, but I like the bigger one even though it does look a little bit large for the bike.

RE: Pelican case
Here are some pics, I think I saved them to my computer from Todd's install. (all right reserved, pat pending) I did however have to change the center clevis pin to a bolt with a self locking nut because the case would turn slightly after a while, and you all know I couldn't have something that was off by 3 degrees right?[&:]
