One thing you could try is the clear overlay that they install on cars. My buddy has it on his corvette and another friend on his Silverado SS. Its put on the front painted sections to prevent stone chipping. I see it on ebay all the time.

That clear protective laminate is great. The only problem I see is getting it on without peeling the paint off the plastic. The clear will only stick if the paint is on really good. I have problems putting it on cars with aftermarket paint jobs. Sometimes it will pull the paint right off when you are applying the clear.
