Mudjunkie said it, if you haven't dropped your gearing a 13 tooth front sprocket is the best bang for the buck. If you do that and the "free" mods you will see an improvement.

ORIGINAL: bryantjt

The sloppy welds are at the engine side of the headpipe. Remove the 2 nuts on the flange and pull off the headpipe and either file or grind them down ALMOST flush to the pipe diameter. As sloppy as they were I didn't trust that they had good penetration so I left maybe 1/16" of weld bead sticking up.
Opens up a flow restriction?

Maybe we should start a "financial aid" post for the muffler and carb jet deprived KLX owners? Call it K.A.R.E. - Kawasaki Aid for Rejetting and Exhaust!

I donated $300 to that fund. It went to the ebay dealer to get myself a new exhaust.

zapitbullseye found something good...if your tight for cash or simply don't want to spend the dough for a slip on or full system, opening up the stock exhaust is pretty darn cheap and fairly easy to do..weld in a new end cap and presto it sounds good, runs pretty darn well, better than nothing..
