Default Opinions welcome

High all, I have been viewing alot of posts here for the last few months, and I have to say this forum is very educational. Three years ago i purchased a klx250s for the better half to get her bike licence on and possibly ride a bit when we camp. No licence yet and only about 300 kms on it in three years that I put on in town. I now work in a little mountain town which is a ten minute drive from the forest reserve where there is unlimited camping, biking quadding, etc., so I have decided not to sell this thing. I have no intent on touring on this thing, just bush riding. I have put on a 49 tooth rear, chain, handguards, and aggressive DOT offroad tires. My fmf Q4 and header will be picked up tommorow along with the dynojet kit and twin air filter. My questions are what do you guys think would help in the reliabilty department when I pull the carb. I ride between 3000 to 6500 feet in temps between 10c to 30c. should I drill the starter jet out, should i leave the pilot alone, air screw- baseline, jet size recommondations. Any thoughts would be appriciated. Will see how the season goes, the 351 kit looks intriguing.

Sounds like you have the best commute of any of us. I'm sure you'll get lots of jetting suggestions from others. I called Dynojet before I installed mine and they gave me their recommendations based on my mods and elevation. Never let me down.

If it starts easily, don't worry about drilling the enricher jet. If hard to start, do it.

Leave the pilot stock.

I ride about the same elevation, and while a 250 ran needle clip 2 down from top, 124 dynojet main. It was still rich. Open exhaust, twinair filter, air box lid off. Lid on was way rich. About 2 and a little turns out on the mix screw. HMF slipon can.

Now, 351 kit, stock pilot, 124 DJ main, clip 3rd down, lid off, 2 1/4 turns out pilot, and still a tad rich. FMF powerbomb and Q4 with quiet core.

But others will be running #38 pilot, 128 or larger main.

YRMV.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the fold, enjoy the bike.
Illking started a spreadsheet for all that info on everyone's set-up. Search his posts and you'll find it. Maybe you'll find a good example similar to where you live. Add your's in too, once you get it all squared away.

"Sea level" for me is 4,700 feet, so I'm riding in your elevation range too (except that I do get to around 11,000 feet at times). You'll want to re-jet for sure.

X2 on contacting DynoJet for their recommendation. Their setup sheets do not take elevation into consideration... I emailed them and they got back to me in under 24 hours (3 hours, if I remember correctly). They were spot-on with what they came up with.

124 main went in this afternoon, 2.25 turns out, twin air and full exhaust. no issues whatsoever. re assembled everything and something happened that has never ever happened in three years-she fired up instantly, no choke and about -6 degrees celsius outside which made for a chili ride in the 4 inches of fresh snow. was just warming up to do oil change. new exhaust sounds awesome. Ill keep an eye on the plug colour if winter ever ends here in canada and i actually get to ride. thanks all.

Welcome to the forums and to a great bike. Don't feel bad, I bought a 2006 XT 225 for the wife, she got her license in 2007 and hasn't rode for 2 years.
