The first models did have the head shake, but they ended up putting steering dampners on from the factory. Notice the one in the pic, it's on top of the steering head. A buddy I work with has a 98 model TL1000. He's got the twice pipes on it and I swear it sounds like a 350 chevy on steroids. He says it's everything he's always wanted in a motorcycle, and he's had more than me. I'd do it dude.

The KLX can take you anywhere the quad would go, but I'd wager its not as comfortable as the TL for long road rides. Since I got the KLX I've put less than 50 miles on my Sportsman 500 and 6300 on the KLX.

I have'nt been on a TL, I ride an 05 ZX-6R ( 636 ) for street duty, but I have a friend in one of the packs I ride with now and then whom owned a TL for awhile. It served him well as a sport touring bike more then a pure sportbike. It had tons of torque in the low to midrange but lost alot in the top end. If your not looking for cuting edge top speed and handling it seemed like a great street bike.

Only problem he had with it is even with the factory damper he did have headshake problems when the front end was loaded, which for him was often coming down to rough from wheelies, and what eventually caused him to wreck. But when he kept the front end down or landed properly it seemed to handle it ok. If your not planing on rough wheelies on a regular basis you'll probably do just fine, and once you get used to any kind of sportbike on the concrete.., I'll be surprised if you can even look at the KLX siting on the kickstand in concrete.

So be warned.., if your anything like me, even with a LONG dirtbike background, once you get accustomed to a sportbike on the street it will completely ruin the dualsport aspect for you shy of necesity. I absolutely hate dual sports on the street now :: chuckles :: I use it because I have no truck so its strictly to get to and from the dirt.

Goodluck on the decision. I think you'll love the TL.
