Default older bike

i own a 1981 honda xl185s that is still titled and street leagal. I have tried forever to find an exhaust other than this pos factory thing they claim to be an exhaust. its got this triangular shaped piece for a midpipe that im not sure if its supposed to be a resonator of some sort or what but it melts the crap out of any side panel you put on there so im looking for a more up to date exhaust but i dont know of any companies that make a pipe for vintage style bikes. any help here would be great

dont know of any bolt on setups, but you might try getting with a fabracation shop to see if they can build you something. you would probably have to supply the actual muffler canister and some pipe, but a good shop could bend a pipe from the engine back.

i think i have it figured out. the factory head pipe is 1 1/8" and i have located a silencer spark arrestor from fmf that is a universal fit to older bikes. i am an auto mechanic and have been for many years so pipe bending and custom fab is no problem but i have just begun my adventure into working on motorcycles so am kinda relying on what i read here for info into the world lf available aftermarket pieces that some of you may have already have had success with in an attempt to save me money. i sure would hate to have to try three different silencer units before i finally find one that will work. shipping costs too much for all of that. but anyway here is the one i ofund i think i am going to try.

anyone in here think this will or wont work the input would surely be appreciated
