OK, I'm going to say it...
...this bike needs more HP to be ridden safely on the street by fat guys like me. There...it's out on the table in plain sight.
During the last few days I've had two long stretches of highway to cover in a strong headwind. Wide open in 5th netted me between 62 and 65 mph actual (GPS). WFO in 6th was worse. I couldn't keep the reves up.
NOTE that this was with the 14/42 gearing. The 13t helped a lot by allowing the revs to stay up in the torque band (above 7K). That really is ideal gearing for this bike.
So, the carb work, air box mods, K&N filter, and exhaust are very high priorities for me right now.

Todd, who you calling fat? LOL For me the power thing is no issue, since I will rarely ride at highway speeds. I live in a small town of 4000 with one stop light. 2 miles from work or the store or well....everywhere including trails and logging roads. I rode mine on the highway when I did the break-in using the Mototuneusa method, and went 13 miles out of town. The bike did ok, and I took it up to 65 in fifth gear. I weigh...cough...235...cough and I was hoping that I could drop 40 lbs after I got the bike, but I love the pasta too much, (sorry Dr. Atkins) Well in the infamous fords of Forest Gump, "That's all I got to say about that".

Tell ya guys , I'm rolling at just under 200lb right now and with front and rear sprocket changes, I can hold 75 no problem on the freeway. I can run 80-83 before I hit the grades, and then 75 pulling most hills. Sixth gear is useless with stock gearing. By the way I'm a 1300 miles

dont laugh, but is there a way to do the Mototuneusa method without going 65mph? i would be hard pressed to get over 50mph without driving 2-3 hours from home....but did go to the dealers to sit on one today, kaw card is due in another 8 days then i go for it, did compare the klx with the yamaha xt 225 side by side and also at the same time the susuki 200, there is no comparison and i sit flat footed on the klx, on the xt225 my knees are way up in the air

Todd,
Whats up my man!!!! thanks for havin some ***** and comin out and saying the truth. I really appriciate it and hopefully all you other klx owners will start comin out and telling us new buyers there dislikes. This is so important to us so we no what to really expect and don't have to deal with any real dissapointments. So keep it comin cause although its not super fast at highway speeds it still suits my needs... thanks guys!!!!!!
