change the oil immediatly!!! it prolly smells really bad too.I'd suggest switching your coolant over to engine ice as well.
I as well ran some severe trails in july in west virginia and i had a bout a 5 mile strectch where i never left 1st gear....my fan never turned on and i never saw a temp light.I am running the engine ice and Amsoil 10w 40 full synthetic.I had 300 miles on the bike that week all off road and when i changed the oil when i got home it still looked good.
I'd suggest changing your gearing because if you are running stock gearing in trails that tight you will burn some stuff up.

I'll be changing the oil either today or this weekend. And while I'm at it, I'll do the oil filter spring mod.

I change mine every 1000 miles and use Pennzoil 10W - 40. But it all depends on how many miles you do off road. If you spend alot of time on the trail it can take a toll on your oil. So you may need to change more often.

I have a buddy that was so **** about taking care of his stuff. He would change his oil EACH time he went riding (Even when we were camping, although he'd do that every second time).
Paid off, his bike was so well kept, someone decided to take it from him.[:'(]

I use the Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 in my crankcase, I changed the oil several times before the bike logged 1,000 miles and have since gone to changing it about every 1k miles along with the filter.
My last change I logged 1,300 miles with most of the miles accumulated at or near 75mph, the oil looked pretty bad and I noticed that the gear changes weren't as smooth either.
Getting ready to make another 650 mile RT journey this weekend.

So I guess the recommended 7,500 mile oil change, according to the owner's manual, is not a good thing. So from what I hear so far, every 1,000 miles or after everyheavy off-road trip. I was hoping to at least go3,000 - 5,000 miles before changing or once a year, which every comes first. I could have probably made the 3,000 miles, if that is I didn't go off-roading.
I better start buying oil in bulk, because I drive the KLX more than myFord Ranger.

I know guys that change their oil once a year on their sport bikes and such. But they dont have dirt getting in there. I dont know about every heavy ride, but every other is what i do, unless i've ridden quite a bit on the roads and then go on a heavy ride. then i just change after that heavy ride.
But for me like some, every ride is a heavy ride

Frequent oil changes is cheap insurance for a good long engine life. How many miles a year do you ride? 6K seems pretty high for most so, your only talking about 6 oil changes. I wouldn't buy in bulk for an every other month oil change.

Case in point, synthetic oil is not cheap. Hence I want to go longer on it. Its either $11 a quart for Royal Purple or just about any other full synthetic. Or $7-8 for conventional motorcycle oil. Mobile 1 V-Twin 20w-50 is the only oil that I can get readily, everything else would require a longer trip toa motorcycle shop or order online (which I did for the Royal Purple).
Annual mileage is looking to be about 5-10k miles. All depends on weather.
