Oil Leak:(
#11
That's exactly where my leak starts too.About an inch away from the rearest part of the flat, and it continues to the front about 4 inches.Really bad stretch of gasket right there.I certainly can try the JB weld and see.Or the sealant too.See which one works or holds up the longest.Sweet ideas.I'm gonna hold out for now,it's 80 degrees up here in minnesota for the whole week! Nothin but miles for my bike. When it starts gettin cold and I call it quits,I'm gonna bring it down to the basement, lay her down, and seriously clean that area and go from there.

You are on the path I'd go if it were my bike. Getting it good and clean of any oil is key. You MIGHT even consider roughing it up a wee little bit (just take an aspirin, not the entire bottle!) to give your external sealant a better chance to have something to hang onto. If you go this route, I'm assuming you have a skid plate to protect the external sealant...if not, you're sure to be leaking again soon, I'd think.

Clean the area really good. Put a 1" wide x 1/16" deep JB Weld on it with a smooth finish, then cover that with 2" wide mechical duct tape, the metal kind or gorilla duct tape. Put a paper shop towel between it and the skid plate, you can pull that out every month & put a new one in. No way would I split the cases for a drop of oil. Engines used to leak like someone drilled a hole in them, it is a mech device, just live with it.

My marine buddy once told me of motorized military equipment: "If it doesn't leak, it doesn't run." I agree with durielk - I wouldn't split the case for a drip. Find other ways to deal with it. His suggestion sounds pretty good.
