All you have to do is to put a dab of fresh grease on the spring so it stays there when you tighten every thing down.

A dab of grease works for me too. On a related note, be careful when putting the oil filter cover back on. I have found it to be easy to pinch the o-ring. If you pinch the o-ring then you'll be leaking oil - I've done this on a couple of oil changes.

I like the grease Idea (I will have to try that next time) What I did was lean the bike over some and I used a piece of mechanics wire bent to a "L" to hold the bottom of the spring in until I was able to fit the filter........

flaw number 4, they should of made the spring easyer to stay in by putting the guider fins closer togehter or some other way to keep the bugger in there makes home oil changes a pain without grease.

other 3 flaws, fuel amount, location bottom end brake line, and the way the rear turn signals are monted to the rack like a clamp.

That's what I did, used a pair of needle-nose pliers and gave the spring a little twist to widen it out, now I never have to monkey with it again.

So easy a caveman could do it.

I did the spring mod as well... It worked like the spring the factory should have engineered. Go figure...
