Default Oil change interval?

Just wondering if the oil change recommendation in the user's manual seems strange; sez to change the oil at 600 miles and then at 7500 miles. The 7500 increment seems waaay too long between changes; that's a lot of miles on a little bit of oil.

What do you guys think?

Yea I was looking at my maintenance log in the book, and I did the first one at 40 after the Mototune method, then at 200 then 400 then 1000 then at 2700 I changed to full Amsoil synthetic, and I figure that 2000 is probably the most I will go between changes. 7500 is pretty long considering it might take the average guy 2-3 years or more to get that many miles on a bike. Time is worse than mileage on some equipment. Take for example a Diesel powered fire pump I have at work. It's 11 years old, its only got 50 hours on it from testing, but it sits for a couple of years between oil changes. I haven't figured out if I should change it once a year or not, and sometimes I have to cycle the 250 gal tank of diesel, because after a while the fuel stabilizer just won't cut it. Hmmmm I wonder if it would be safe to run in my truck. I bet its been 4 years since I replaced the fuel. But with the cost of a new fuel pump because of contaminated fuel is about $1500 for the Dodge Cummins, I don't think it would be worth the risk.
Here is a picture of the little motor. Its a Detroit Diesel 3 cylinder, and it is loud in that building. Sorry I got off topic there a little.
