I doubt this will make you feel better, but I did the same thing, only I didn't go as far as you before I realized I was "in the wrong hole"! I think a dab of JB weld will put yours right again, no biggie!

I almost did the exact same thing. Started drilling away on the brass plug then started thinking this doesn't feel right. Stopped before I went all the way through. Doh!

Hope I have this handled.

Started with this:

Decided to try some of this magic putty stuff:

Still have tons left for my next screw up. Just tilted the carb & worked it in with a screwdriver & end of my little finger:

So far so good, put a couple hundred k's on it - working great after all the minor mods. BTW, I filled up last night - had 95km on a full tank, refilling to the top only took 3.6l. That's almost 75mpg (Canadian) - surprised the heck out of me. Will have to check the next fill and see what that says.
