Default Off road wheels for the KLX300SM

I've been scouring the forums, facebook groups, etc. I cannot find information about converting the supermoto factory build to a dirt build. I want to mount a set of dirt wheels 21/19 or 18 to my supermoto. I want to be able to quickly do it without transferring rotors, etc. Anyone else do this yet? All conversions are for the older bikes, and they're converting to supermoto.

Thanks,

could possibly be a bad idea. My son has a KTM supermoto. He got it with a set of offroad wheels. The problem is the spokes and geometries collide with the front brake caliper for the bigger offroad wheels. So they had machined down the brake caliper to get clearance. All good until the brake caliper cracked. He "repaired" it with JB weld, and that worked, until it didn't. So he is back to supermoto config only and looking for what the next ride will be.

The SM uses the same caliper set up as the S, the carrier is different to suit the smaller disc rotor. You would need to either get the smaller carrier or get another 300mm front rotor to have interchangeability that is quickest. I'd see if you can get another big rotor so you run the big rotor on both wheel sets.

You can use any 2009 or newer front wheel, to have the electronic speedo drive and pretty much any rear wheel from any KLX 250/300. You will also run into the rotor problem if you get a wheel that is older than 2009. The pre-09 rotors were 220mm the 09 up are 240mm. Again, the difference is the carrier and it is a bolt on. I know about the rotors because I am running KLX300 rotors on my KLX250, the front already had one from a 300R on the bike, the rear was a 300R rotor and carrier I got when I swapped out to the smaller rotor for better brake control (less power) in dirt/gravel.

Regardless, you want to have the matching rotors on the wheel sets so they are a roll in deal. I was going to do the same on a KLX650, which oddly enough uses brake rotors that are also compatible with the 250/300, so I did a lot of research.

I have a set of full sized ‘02 wheels for my ‘09 sf. I needed to remove the rubber seal inside the electronic speedo drive gear in order for it to fit over the receiver on the hub of the ‘02 front wheel. It seems snug and everything but I doubt it’ll read the proper speed. Do you know if that is the only issue with doing that? Or will there be some damaging friction etc. from running it without that rubber seal?

I got a set of '18 dirt wheels for my '09 SuperMoto (SF) and just bolted them on. Swapped to a dirt front fender and never looked back. No brake swap/issues at all.
