Yes, speedo still works, you only have to remove the seal that's in the speedo housing, otherwise it doesn't fit around the 650r hub.

I wanted to do the same swap but decided to try a set of Kenda 270's on my SF. They work really well for mild off road work and it's cheap. You might want to try a set and see how you like them before you invest a lot of money on the conversion. If you decide to go with the taller wheels, don't forget the longer side stand.

 

If any one is interested I have a like new set I removed from my SF... I didn't put 100 miles on them before removing... I'll take $100 for the set shipped to the lower 48. They are the 3.50-17 front and the 5.10-17 rear....
