Default which octane gas?

Hey guys last noob question I promise

What gas do you all put in your bike 87 or 91? IS one better than other? I have an 09 and still are breaking it in, but just curious what you reecommend.

Thanks, Zach

I always fillup with 91 octane. But 87 octane works the same. Plus, with the chance of Ethonal now. Theres a less likely chance Ethonal will be in the 91 octane than the 87 octane.

The bike is designed to run on 87/88 octane fuel due to it's (relatively speaking) low compression ratio and an ethanol content up to 10% is OK.

E10 can reduce fuel economy slightly, other than that there shouldn't be any negative side effects.

It can be difficult to find non blended fuels, most gas stations nationwide mix up to 10% ethanol (E10) with their Regular and Mid-grade and some even in the Premium grades, if it is important that fuel does not contain ethanol to you most states require that 90+ octane fuels be labeled (on the pump) that they either do or do not contain ethanol.

For the extra .40 cents per fill-up I use premium unleaded in my bikes.

I run 91. In my area of California it's usually about .25 cents higher for 91 than 87 octane. You're only talking .50 cents more to fill up with the good stuff.

I usually run 87. I'm cheap. No ethanol, though. I've run Premium once or twice and didn't notice a difference.

Over here, we have a choice of either 91 or 95. I run 95 Mostly Shell 'V' power. Seems fine.
