Hi Ron,
I read a little while ago your summary of the top speed (on a closed course, obviously) test runs with different airbox snorkels.
Have you done any more testing since then? Still get the best top speed ( = best peak HP) with the original snorkel?

Seems like in overheating conditions, you'd overheat a little sooner if you were going to overheat because of the bypass tube, but I like the reliability contribution overall and generally, if you're in conditions to overheat.. you're probably going to overheat either way.
I have mixed feelings about hot oil...
Oh and this is a cool thread.

One of the best "uncommon mods" is a Fredette chain guide. The stock POS will break in no time flat, it's really not up to any serious off road riding. I don't even know how I broke my stocker. I just got back from a ride one day and it was pretty much destroyed. I ordered one from Jeff Fredette and it is a much more solid unit for sure. You might want to look into some radiator guards as well.

Ron, I didn't have a T-Bob on my KLR650 but understood the benefit of it on the KLR. The wide temp swings on the KLR are fairly big in many riding situations. However, on the KLX and since having a digital temp guage on it, I'm somewhat amazed at how stable the temps run on the KLX. In the dead of winter to the heat of summer, the KLX almost always runs in a 20 degree spread. I'd bet the KLR's spread can be as high as 50-70 degrees. Not claiming any absolute knowledge on it, but the KLX doesn't seem to need this as much.
