Good luck with the cam mod, watch out for the valve cover gasket, the hardest part of the mod is getting it back on. I ran the mod for around 900 miles and then did the big bore. I like the cam mod, made the bike fun to ride.

I hear ya. I paid $3500 OTD for my brand new 09. I originally wanted a WR but the cheapest new i could find was around $6300. After doing some research about the various big bores, cams and carb upgrades i found out that the KLX actually has the potential to make MORE power than even a fully modded WR. Plus i'm kinda a Kawi man from WAY back.

Even if i end up sinking $2,000+ into the KLX i'm still in it for less than the stock WR would have cost me.

How much better is the big bore? Think the cam mod is half as good as big bore, or more/less?

Any suggestions on what I should buy for jets and what would be a good starting point?

Big bore is great. More torque and power everywhere. The cam mod is a nice mod on the way to a big bore. Try going up one size on the main jet with the cam mod.

Deej, bike came with 13/47 gearing. I actually just ordered a 14 again for up front to bring rpms down a little on the highway. Also came with (not installed) a hindle exhaust. I started it in my shed with the hindle and its WAY too loud for me. Didnt even test ride it, put stock back on. Anybody want to buy a hindle exhaust? pm me if interested.

Havent changed jetting. Im gonna give the cam mod a shot. Im a machinist and fairly mechanically inclined so should be able to get through it. Im used to wrenchin on bikes and especially sleds. I plan on doin the cam mod, jetting, change butt plug in stock exhaust and try that.

My GF has a ninja 250 which seems far more powerful the klx. I think the ninja dynos at around 25 at the rear wheel. Think the above mods would get close to that?
The lil ninja 250 (parallel twin) hp is way up in the powerband. Not very practical if a klx single cylinder could run those R's and be able to ride in rough terrain. Keep with the lower tq and rideability and the big bore kits will make sense.

I have a stock EFI SF and a love/hate relationship with it.
IMO, a 47 rear sprocket for highway riding on this bike is a bad thing.
