Default noobie questions; PLEASE HELP

hey whats up guys, i am soo close to getting either a 2009 klx 250, or a used klx 250...ive already got my mind set on one, the new wr250 are like 40 pounds heavier, and i dont like the look as much as the klx...the one thing i dont like about the 09 is that they have digital tachometers...i dont know about ya'll but i just think the regular one's are cooler...anyways, i was just wondering how many MPG could i expect to get ON ROADoutta it if i keep it serviced, in good shape, etc. and i baby the gas as much as i can, and dont exceed 50-55mph...i dont care about gas mileage off road, just wondering if i could crack 80 or 90 mpg if i babied it and kept it serviced as best as possible....also, where am i most likely to find a good used one...like something under 3500 or 3000...04-06, maybe? i just have noticed that dual sports, especially the 250's are very rare and hardly anyone sells used ones...thanks guy any other help would be appreciated...

Hey Kyle welcome to the forums. Here is what I found out. Before the Mods on my bike which include the Muzzy, jetting and running with the air box lid off, and the 13-45 gears I never checked the mileage, so perhaps someone who still has the stock bike or at least did a mileage check before doing any mods can chime in here. My bike is getting a consistent 60 mpg no matter how I ride it. Oh sure off road is probably lower, but a good Poker run with gravel and blacktop hard riding trying to keep up with everyone got me 60 mpg. So I would guesstimate that a stock bike ridden really conservitively will maybe get 70ish? Anyone else? Again welcome and let us know what you decide. Oh and don't let anyone tell you that running with the stock gears will get you better gas mileage, because you end up using most or all of the throttle trying to get up to speed with the 6th gear that its a wash between that and doing a moderate run with higher gears. If that makes sense.

70 sounds right, before it hits reserve i think. its been so long....i seem to have gotten pretty much the same or very similar milage even after the mods, aside from the gearing as that was the last thing i did.

Oh sorry I mean 70 MPG not 70 to reserve, which might be the same I can't remember.

Not that it helps you much but the dealership here in amarillo has a brand new '06 klx 250s for a good price. They did have 2 but hey i liked it for the price so i picked up one.

hmmmm I'm really lost now...can't remember if it was 70 to the tank or to the reserve.....now that I think of it, i think i get closer to 55-60 before i hit reserve. I'm going to find out with my new clarke very soon though...I should get a bottle to fill up when i run it completely dry

alright thanks so much guys, that sounds really good to me right about now, i got a wrx and its ok on gas, like upper 20's if i baby it and dont exceed 65 mph...haha but i cant help but punching hte turbo every change i get, reducing me to barely 20 per gallon...also how much should i expect to pay for insurance if im 22, two prior 13 and under speeding tickets, no accidents, clean record? i heard its really cheap like 100 bucks a year but i thought there is no way its that cheap...anyone give me an idea? thanks again
