Noob question

I ride the **** out of the bike. The last time it ran it was bouncing off the rev-limiter in 6th gear for about 10 miles.
I would not recommenced treating it that way. lol Its costing me a good bit to get her running again. Head gasket blew, 351 piston scored the **** out of the cylinder, and valves are needing to be replaced. Currently waiting on head, cylinder, piston and pumper carb from Mr Blue.
But did give me a reason to get the head rebuilt port & polished, and a new piston and re honed cylinder.

Aftermarket mufflers need to be repacked as they are mostly absorption type mufflers. High pressure, fast moving air exits the pipe and expands into the muffler. usually there is a perforated core surrounded by packing. It is the softness and insulating qualities that dampen the sound my buffering the sound waves.
Most OEM mufflers are noise canceling. The pressure waves are reflected around the inside of the muffler and crash into one another canceling each other out.
The noise canceling type does not rely on packing that can be degraded over time.
