this is my first post after roamin around on this site for awhile, ive only got about 200 mi. on my bike but i know what i need to do after readin all these other posts. just wonderin how long should i wait to break in my bike before addin a slip on, kdx snorkel and jet kit ?
also what is the right jet kit to use with a 2 bros, i think thats the pipe im leanin towards right now. thanks for any input.

 

I waited until I had about 500 klicks on the bike then added the HMF slip-on. As for jets, there is oem Kawasaki/Keihen carb jets (individual sizes) or you can go with the DynoJet "variety-pack" kit which includes a number of different size jets. The major factor when installing jets is the altitude you ride and also humidity factors into the equation. Forget the KDX snorkel, just pull the lid off and buy a K&N or Uni air filter instead.

Don't spend too much time trying to power up your KLX
It never will be a power machine no matter what you do to it.
Alot of people on this forum spend huge amounts of money chasing minute gains
You will only ever make slight gains in power
Just remember it's a 250, the mower power you put into it the less reliable it becomes

I love my KLX dont get me wrong there a great bike for what they were intended for.

I waited until around 700K's before I started modifying mine.

Reliability shouldn't be an issue with any of the minor mods, nor would it be for the 300ccupgrade for that matter, lets face it, the klx250 engine is same engine as the klx300 just with a smaller bore and piston.

for me modding is about tinkering, I spend 12 hours a day working on computers and my KLX is my "other passion" if I didn't I think I'd go nuts. and oh yeah a little more power would be nice to.

Tell me about it, I work in IT as well.

Getting out in the shed and playing with the bikes, gets me away from the computers.

It may never be a hugepower hours, but a bigger bore, and full exhaust system can make a difference, even if some of that difference is physiological its all good.

can i add a slip on without re-jetting or will that cause engine damage because the bike runs so lean ?

 

You've got to re-jet really. You can at a minimum remove the snorkel or the whole air box lid. The cost of the jetting is so little you would be robbing yourself if you didn't alter it if you fit a new pipe.
