Default Non-OEM Hand Grip Fitment Issue

Just put some heated grip elements on the bike, and went ahead and replaced the grips as well. I went with the Pro-Grip 714's. The concern I have is the throttle side fitment. The OEM grips have a groove in them where they slide over the ring on the throttle tube, but the new one don't. I just pushed the new ones up tight to the ring, and this leaves about a 1/4" gap - Is this okay? Here are some pics to help:

Thanks.

Jordan

I'll be doing the same soon and noticed that Jordan didn't get any replies. I'm guessing it is not a problem, but what way ya'll?

I bought some new grips a while back and noticed the same thing. I ended up leaving the stock grip on that side (cause that's how I roll!)

I installed a set of Pro-Taper pillow tops on mine and there is the same gap. Been on for a while now and it hasn't moved. I used hairspray and wire to secure them.

I just trimmed the lip/ring on the throttle tube away (Stanley knife and some sand paper) and now all grips fit fine and go all the way to the end of the bar.

I was busting grips before, as the ends would tear after stacks because they didn’t sit flush to the end of the bar and hung out a little.

I don’t know why there is a lip/ring on the tube but it isn’t needed. My grips dont move at all and I dont add anything addtional to keep them on the bars.

I put the grip heaters and those grips on my KLR. I have no idea why i waited so long to put grip heaters on. Sooo nice on those 40 Degree days riding into work.
