non-OEM exhaust noise level
Hi,
I've red religiously the other thread I started asking which version of KLX would be better for me needs. I understand that it is highly restricted and a few mod can unleash it's true performances capabilities.
That said, I've seen different post from people using FMF, Muzzy and other exhaust system. I'm sure performances is increased and weight is decreased but how about noise level ?
In my town, apparently there are too much policeman for our crime level (my personal opinion) so they often arrest people for useless and stupid reasons like: car window tinting to dark, car exhaust sound level and motorcycle sound level, just to name a few.
Is there any DOT approved exhaust system for the KLX ? or sound limiter ? It might decrease air flow a bit but keep me away from those annoying law enforcer.
Cheers!

I too fanatically read posts about which exhaust would put out the least noise while still breathing better and I came up with the FMF Q4. Sounds nice, the idle is quieter than you would expect, while the bark at full throttle is substantial, the mid-rpm range is meaty sounding yet pleasing to the ear. (IMHO)

i have the KLX 300 on mine. with the stock butt plug, it sounds exactly like the stock exhaust (maybe even quieter??). pull out the butt plug and it has a nice growl. shop around, i picked mine up for $29.95 on ebay with the header pipe. looked brand new.

The difference between KLX300 pipe and KLX250 is important? I've never seen both side by side to compare. I guess the KLX300 pipe does not have catalyser into it, right?

the big difference is that it has a removable baffle/butt plug. the butt plug is a basically a flat plat with a pipe that i think might even be bit bit smaller in diameter than the stock 250. take out the plug, and it really opens it up. Not sure about the catalytic converter, but it is noticably lighter too.
i just cut a 250 exhaust to use parts to fabricate my own butt plug. it will be less restrictive that the stock 300, but hopefully quieter than no plug, for when i am cruising around town.

Here's a thread I put up with 3 of the most popular aftermarket exhausts in the same video. Far from scientific but, might give you an idea. https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=32162
