Default non o-ring chain?????

i was reading on a honda forum about the 230 cause my friend has one and they like to conver their chains to a 428 instead of 520 to give alot more rear wheel pull. i of course am keeping the 520 but they say u can convert to a 428 or RUN A NON O-RING CHAIN??? and it will give you the same result. how can just not using an o ring chain do this? i've never heard that before.

also i know we've been through this a hundred times, but a front sprocket off an XR650L fits our bike right?

I don't know anything about converting to a 428 but a non-o-ring chain has less friction than an o-ring chain and can make a small difference in the amount of power that gets to the rear wheel. I have no idea how much of a difference it would actually be, though.

this is a guote from the crf site.

"Does the 428 conversion really make that much of a differance? I just dropped the o-ring chain and put a standard non oring on it and that took away alot of the friction from the orings. The wheel actually spins 4 or five time compared to 1 or 2 with oring chain while it is on the stand. I just lube it after every moto or ride around the yard."

Reply:

"Freeing up the drag on the rear wheel and thus the engine is the goal. Non o-ring or 428 conversion, both work. I did not weigh the two but the 428 drops some weight and was a consideration for me. I figured the less mass you had to get moving the less the motor had to work."

the 428 conversion is somethimg the 230 owners do but i'm interested in the results of the non-o-ring chain!

Unless the sprocket ratios were changed that is phycically impossible.

He means when he spins the wheel with his hand it goes around 4 or 5 times until the friction stops it.
