If anyone in the US buys this I will send them two stainless bolts to replace the black ones in the photo. One of the few things I did not like about this rack was those two bolts.

mits, those flat bolts your talking about. i know the problem first hand, it ate a hole in my tent bag (before it got eaten by the chain of course). if you can send them on the cheap, ill take a set.

Not sure we are talking about the same bolts. I was speaking of the ones that go into the very front mount of the nomad rack. Same bolts that go thru the rear of the seat. They are recesed into the rack so they should never come in contact with luggage. I just did not like haveing a rusty 5mm bolt that would be hard to break free due to rust everytime I wanted to take the seat off.

I did modify the rack also by makeing the top of the rack flush where the two bolts mount thru the old toolbag. I cut the rack flush then drilled out the posts just deep enough that allen bolts would be flush with the posts and the rack.

If you want the bolts either PM me or send me an email at my name + hotmail.

jxg Send me an postal address and I will send you a couple. I salvaged the bolts out of a 225HP mercury engine that was getting scrapped out.
Cheers jim

That is the first thing I noticed on my rack too. After every ride, I power wash the dirt/mud/dust/bugs/horsepoo/drool off the bike before I put the fuzzy blanket cover on.

Those black tapered bolts rust, and the rust drips out onto the plastic. Looks crappy. I went to the fasteners shop, and they matched up a set of stainless. Only issue was I needed a washer to keep the sizing right. The hole in the rack is tapered too, so the bolts they gave me slipped through. One washer, and good to go.

The bolts I salvaged off the outboard had built in washers. Worked out fine. In fact I just finaly found some of the stash so I have two sets. One set is spoken for and will mail out today. The other is free to a good home.

maninthesea,

the bolts came in the mail today, really appreciate them, but i do have a dumb question. Did you have to make a custom socket or something to get them to work? All my sockets are too fat, so I can't get inside the "tube" of the racket to get the bolt in there?

I figured a will sacrifice a socket, and shave down the edges to get it in (and will have to carry that in the toolkit, instead of the allen wrench).

thanks again!

John
