Default No pull between 7 and 9 k

Hi Guys,

I am not sure if it is my paranoia but it seems like my klx doesn't pull between 7 and 9k after the knocked over bike fiasco. I know it sounds ridiculous but I thought it pulled hard between there. Can anyone confirm or and I thinking of 5- 7k.

Thanks

Can you provide a bit more information about your bike?

It's kind of hard to diagnose a symptom on such little information.

Things like jetting, all mods and such are quite helpful.

It is stock.

I am not sure if my initial post is clear. After getting gas in the oil I did an oil change. Since then, I have been riding it to make sure it is "normal". It seems the bike doesn't pull very much between 7 an 9k rpm. I think it used to but I can't be remember .. maybe I am just imagine it used to pull hard between that RPM range.

Stock my bike fell on its face after around 7500. Now it pulls good up to around 8500-9000 but the biggest hit is between 5-7000. I'm debating on the FSW headpipe to mate up to my 300 stock exhaust as they claim better top end power. Kinda makes me wonder though because if it mounts up to the stock 300 muffler, how can it be any bigger?

If it's stock, then I'm sure it is simply a case of wishful thinking.

My bike was a slug after 6000 to 7000 rpm.

With all the work I've done, it works really, really good in the 3500 to 8500 rpm area. It still doesn't really pull hard after about 9000 rpm. I think it's camshaft design limited.

Your bike is Stock and your pushing it to 9000 rpm. Your a braver man then me. I can remember when my bike was stock even pushing it to 7/8k it felt like it was going to explode because it was so plugged up. Got to go with Marty on this and call it wishfull thinking.

Thanks guys.. Sometimes I get super paranoid about things that aren't paid for yet and start imaging they aren't running right.. Especially after "working" on it.

I had the same impression when I rode my dealer's modded D-tracker. Couldn't believe how quickly it ripped through the gears...and that's with the stock gearing. If your air lid is off, I'd difinitely run in the neighborhood of a 130 (keihin) on the main. I believe he is running either a 132 or 135. He runs a full race exhaust though...no way I would use that for a daily ride. I got some dirty looks from people during just a short trip down the street. He aslo has the Pre 2001 CDI which help his top end.

ORIGINAL: Iowaguy

last week when i was riding 3rd gear wheelies, i took it out on a stretch of highway just to test it since it really hadn't been opened up in a while, it pulled redline through 4 gears as easy as i could twist the throttle. and it walked right up to it too, wasn't no drawn out thing. my bike really runs good i do have to admit, for what it is of course. it sure wouldn't outrun a CRF250X or 450X though. i do think in the spring i'm gonna install a 40 pilot jet and a 130 main, up from 35 and 128- just to try and get it a bit more gas. i think i'll keep the air/fuel screw at 2.5 turns though. but it's a long way from april right now, as it's colder than a witches tit here in the midwest as some of you well know. crank up the heatilator.
