Newbie Question--removing exhaust/muffler

If aftermarket exhaust is too loud but you don't want to fart around looking for a KLX300 muffler and header combo (need both as one won't fit without the other) follow these simple steps.

1. get stock 250 muffler
2. mod said muffler
3. look cool whilst doing so
4. profit

I put a TBR silencer tip on the TBR pipe on my R1 - It moved me from 98 db (failing) to 93 db (passing).

I also repacked the muffler while I was there, that might've helped too.

As for your search for a stock pipe and header, I'll trade you straight across!

Your 2nd picture reminded me that we need to deliver the standard warning to the OP that the FMF will melt his right turn-signal...

I think my slip-on is as quiet as the FMF, and it looks better, sounds better, and doesn't melt the turn-signal. DEP claims 92dB out of mine, but when I measured it was closer to 96dB (under standard measurement conditions).

Thanks folks. No sooner got it all figured out, than the deal got away from me. <sigh...> Oh, well, my guess is that another KLX will show up on Craig's list sooner rather than later. Heaven forbid I should have to wait for a used CFR250L to come on the market.

John Deere! Check out the details. Not a horribly bad idea. The side cover should have some insulation against the heat. Some riders weld on a turn down too.

I just communicated with a KLX650 owner who did this. Said it sounded good.

I'd try it on the aftermarket head pipe for good flow. It is a chambered muffler I believe, which means it will never need repacked and should sound as good day one as it will years after and probably would be considered spark arresting too, I don't know for sure.

The smallest I. D. Noise restricting insert that 2bros offers reduces the sound output at idle significantly but not close to the klx300 system. Upper revs sound output is a lot quieter also, but still has bark. Like suggested if noise is a concern the klx300 system w/ Powerbomb header would be a good combo..
