If you can get the modded '06 for $3000 or less then that would be a good price. Keep in mind that buying used saves you on taxes and all the other dealer fees. But what's best for you? Buying an '06 would mean that you won't get the digital speedo or upgraded headlight and the other improvements that the '09 has to offer. Looks might be something to consider as well. I personally think the '06 looks better than the '09 so that might be a consideration as well whatever your tastes are. Whatever you decide to do, your gonna get a very fun bike either way. Good Luck.

Default Good Luck

My KLX250S is an '07 with only 1,400 miles, and that's at least 800 mi. trail/dual sport riding. I wouldn't trade it for an '09 even if it was a straight up trade. The 11" of suspension travel is soooo nice. It has all the airbox/carb, gearing mods with an FMF Q4 exhaust and runs sweet. Then add on MOOSE alum handguards w/deflectors, MOOSE handlbars, and Michelin knobbies. You do the math. Find out how many of the 3,000 mi. are woods riding. If it's been a commuter/play bike, show him a wad of 30 c-notes with a couple of extras in your pocket. What's KellyBlueBook for motorcycles say? $3,500 sounds like what you'd pay for it at a dealer.

Is he the original owner? Find out about oil changes and valve checks. At 1,400 mi., my intake valves are borderline tight - which means an hour of my own time as well as extra shims. What condition are the tires? Who did the jetting and are you getting the left over DJ jets as well as all stock parts including the stock exhaust. What's the plastic/decals look like? Mine's either cracked or scratched because it's a WOODS bike. Did he put all that stuff on the bike to look cool or because he rode it?

My point is; I'd never get $3,500 out of mine because one look would tell you this bike's been used but not abused. I paid $4,700 out the door for it a year and a half ago.

my 06 is whipped too. at least 2000 dirt miles and another 1500 street miles. i got all of the goodies on it(outside of the big bore) and i doubt i could get $2500 for it. not that i'm even considering it.

as far as the 09 goes.......... motorcyclist magazine has a pretty good write up on it in this months issue. you should read it.

You guys are lucky. Over here in Japan, the new ones go for $6000ish, and the used ones are around $3000 for one with all road 20000km or so. I gave $3300 for my 01' D-Tracker with 22000km on it.

I would go for an 06, in fact there are like 6 of them for sale within 200 miles of me. I was at the shop on Friday and they had an 06 out front that just sold for 4300. I didn't pay attention to the mods, but in my opinion the 06/07 is my choice. I would have bought a used one, but I ordered my 06 a couple of months before they were even available to the dealer on late 05. No regrets there.

I would go new because I like to know what's been done to my Stuff. I have babied my '07 & to me it's still worth $4,500. In other words, If it got stolen I would pay $4,500 for one in as good shape that I knew was babied like mine. But.....You never really know if it was babied or not. They clean up so nice at the Stealer that you think they're cream puffs....but.........what dark secret's do they hold????
