Default Newbie!...Need advice, please help..

Hey, I'm about to buy a KLX 250 no matter what. It's exactly what I want and need, a dirt bike/street bike. I've rode dirt bikes my whole life up until I was about 17. I'm 24 now and miss it so much I have to get one. Anyways, I can either pay like $5000 for a brand new one, or I found a used 2006 model for $3,700. The used one has about 3,000 miles on it. But it does come with a lot of extras like HMF exhaust, rejet carberator, smaller after market turn signals, and some other after market plate guards and what not. Should I keep saving up for the '09? Or does the 2006 sound like a pretty good deal. ANY advice would be helpful. Thank you, WiLL

I would go for the used one with the upgrades, but that is just me. IF it runs good, and you like it, it is a better deal than getting a new one since it already has the exhaust, carb work, etc already done.

Are you getting it from the original owner? If so, ask how it was broken in and if the valves have been checked.

+1 on the secondhand bike as long as it has good service history. All the extras are a bonus. Cheap too as you would have to fit a pipe, bashplate and rejet to get the best from this bike anyway. BTW I have an 07.

$3700 is a bit high with 3000 miles even with all that stuff on it. $3000 to $3300 is a fair offer.

I would have got a used one when I got mine if I would have had all the cash at the time. I need financing though, so I had to get a new one.

If your not in a hurry do some looking, you might find one with the same mods for a little less.

way too much money for a used '06 imo. fwiw, I sold my '06 in April of '07 for $4200. It had a full BigGun and all the mods listed in my current sig that my '09 has plus a little warranty left. That bike only had around 600 miles on it when I sold it too. I'd say $2500 tops for a used '06 with that many miles. That's a lot of money to spend on a bike that is now three model years and that many miles. also, the HMF doesn't have that great of a reputation for being a quality product and is only about $200.
this is just me, but the '09 is a much improved motorcycle over the '06 as I've owned both. Again, this is just my opinion but I've had both bikes. Plus, with a new one you're getting a one year warranty and it's not as expensive as some are leading you to believe to do the mods the '06 already has.
A slip-on like the HMF like I already stated is only $200. A sprocket is only $15 and the jetting could be done for around $50 or less. The '09 has features and upgrades the '06 doesn't have. I could list them, but I've done it many times that if you want to look them up, do a search. This is no used 2-stroke that you can just rebuild if you need to; it's a 4-stroke engine that is much more prone to damage if not cared for and much more expensive to work on if required. flame on guys. I'm sure someone will.

offer him 3200 or 3300 and see what his counter offer is... if ur handin him cash he'll be more likely to bite. if u can get it for less than 3400 id grab it.

still too much. I could've bought an '07 a year ago privately for $3000 but I wanted to wait on the '09. and this bike was pristine that I speak of.
