So your original question is 2007 or 2009? What about the 2006. I mean come on people we all know the 06 is the best one, after all it was the first one out. There lets talk about that for a while.[8D]
Deej Dont forget the KLX With the green head light (06)are the faster ones.............lol

Don't bother wasting any of your time arguing with the resident know-it-all, even if you manage to make such a solid point that there's no denying it he'll just change his answers and try convincing everyone that was what he was saying the whole time.

I can’t believe I’m wasting my time here.

For a 47 year-old looking for some kicks the KLX will suit you just fine, so long as you understand what a 4-stroke street-legal dual-sport 250cc bike is all about.

If I were buying one and planned to ride primarily on the street then I would look at the 09 model otherwise the 06/07 KLX should do the trick with more aggressive (albeit crappy) knobby tires and longer travel suspension.

Your 230 lubs is not an issue with this bike although heavier springs may be in order as such with most other bikes on the market.

It’s much more fun to ride a slow bike fast then a fast bike slow.

fixxxer,

Northern Michigan? Holy cow! Get a snowmobile, you'll get more use out of it! I spent 8 years up there. I had both a snowmobile and a bike, I logged way more miles on the snow!

Any chance you can get a test ride before you buy? I weigh a little less than you. I was not allowed a test ride. I was very disappointed with the power of a KLX (in stock form). I did all the free mods and added the way overpriced aftermarket exhaust. I still was disappointed in the power. I added the 300 (292) cylinder, and that has certainly helped. At age 51, I take it easy, but I manage to 'bottom out" the suspension from time to time.Next on my list is springs built more for my weight. I like to tinker, so I consider my KLX two hobbies, riding and modding. After the springs, I plan on taking one of my two cylinders out to 340 (just for the fun of it).

If you don't mind the mechanical work, buy a used (or leftover new) KLX. Use the money you save to make it into the bike you want it to be.

hi all
New to this forum. I need some help in making a decision regarding the klx250s. Ive been on quads mainly since giving up my streetbike and my Yz some time ago and Im looking to return to a 2 wheeler.
Ibelieve after checking out all the othermanufacturers that the klx250s may be my best choice.

1- After reading all your posts about the "upgrades' to the 2009 model do you think i'd be best served trying to find a new 2007 model somewhere?

2- After performing some of the mods i've read here in the forums will the 250 be enuf to haul me around? im 6'1' and 230lbs.My last YZ was Fast but now that Ive matured (47) Im not looking to break any land speed records but at the same time I would enjoy a little torque with a twistof my wrist.

I look mostly to ride 30% street and 70% dirt up in Northern Michigan trails system w/a mix of fire roads,2 tracks and ORV trails with the occasionaly 2 laned paved stuff.

Thanks in advance!
Lots of inquiriing posts today. Ok I'll give my opine. Considering your age, nuthin personal, (you got a little cash to burn.. I assume) and previous bike....take a look at the 08ktm 300 xc-w, two-smoke, wide ratio tranny with electric start. If you over-estimated your street use...this may be the bike for you....it has variable adjustable ignition curves stock..just flip a switch....and has good low end torque for a two-smoke.....I really like this bike...just an idea. btw a lot of people call it a "three stroke"....just an idea.

PS The ktm title will just say motorcycle not "off-road only" like a jap bike...so you can tag it anywhere.

The klx is a great trail bike that you can run on asphalt ALL day long at wot and it won't break or overheat....but even with a 340 jug the torque is not just a twist of the wrist away.

Well that's my opine.

Idelved into my KLX more than you could ever dream and I could tell you things about your bike that you didn't even have a clue were about.
That's his way of telling you about his madd skillz it took to bolt on a Big Gun & some poser mini signals all without knowing anything about you. Its true can tell you anything about your bike he could read in a magazine, I'll give him that

I've owned several bikes in the past and look forward to this new one. I do not think I have said anything to offend you have I? fluff, all of it. Nice try there ya addict. Looks like I've got two adversaries, both of whom are obsessed and are trying to start a smear campaign. Your posts are getting weaker, hinging upon desperation and you're wasting a lot of readers' time with your fishing line casts. You always said you put me on block but it sure appears I'm the first person you look forward to reading and replying to around here. Take a look at your posts, all they appear to be doing is throwing personal insults because you don't agree with my opinions. Can't you think of anything better to do than pick a fight with me? Are you losing that bad at life that you get home and sit at your computer trying to think of ways to come on here and start something? You're funny, you just can't let the old IG thing go.Klonopin anyone? KLX'er says, "yes, please".

You probably felt pretty good about this post didn't ya? Well, it sounded good to anyone that really doesn't knowthat you and a factual point are further away than Pluto is to Earth. Thanks for backing my original point up with that last statement, it solidifies even your belief that the KLX is a slow bike lacking power."It's fun to ride aslow bike fast"? (in the end you're still riding slow), there is a limit on how fast you can go on a slow bike whereas with the faster bike the speed is just waiting on the rider to utilize. As you can see with the other replies, the majority agrees with my original statements. You going to argue with that too? Probably..........

People who say things like "it's funner to ride a slow bike fast thana fast bike slow" usually can't ride worth a dog turd. It's just a cop-out.

great movie btw. In the meantime I'm just jousting with my archrivals and tellin' it like I see it. Who do I need to apologize to? I don't want one, but if we're dishing out apologies, I would be the one to get them this time around. You're alright though as far as I see it. We've had our exchanges but at least you don't make stuff up or try to say I've said the opposite of what I've argued for days.
