New UK KLX250
Hi all,
Copied from the "new members" section:
Recently acquired a KLX250 for my G/F. Its an '09 model, bought second hand from a bloke who was unable to ride after a serious injury (not on the KLX) with only 300 miles on the clock.
The G/F has yet to pass her test, so doesn't know I've got it at the moment. So far all I've done is drop the suspension slightly, fitted a bash plate, put Zeta 3-finger levers on it, and a graphics kit to save the plastics.
Looking forward to reading all the hints and tips on here.

Welcome aboard. I don't know what the motorcycle test entails over in the UK but she'd probably be better off using a bike other than the KLX for the riding test unless it's an SF.
I guess you're gonna wait 'till she passes the test to spring it on her?

welcome to the forum. if your looking for ideas of whats still left to to, i would say jetting but its fi. dont have a clue how you make that run richer but there has to be some program or chip to do it. also a set of hand guards might be nice if you think shes going to drop it a lot. a big handle bar set up will keep you from changing them all the time when see does too. aftre that, it all depend what you want to do with it.

Thanks for the welcome folks!
Yes, it is the fuel injected model here in the UK. It is kind of underpowered, but that can be changed as her riding improves, if necessary.
She will be taking her test on a school bike, the 125 two-stroke she rides at the moment is not ideal, a touch too tall.
The bike already has a set of handguards for when it gets dropped (note I didn't say if. ) but they are not my favourite.
The standard steel bars seem too low to me, but when she does get to ride the bike I will take her view as to whether she wants them higher before I stick a pair of Renthals on, at which point I will add the grip-heaters and a set of Cycras. Gearing needs looking at too, but again, will have to see how she feels before making any changes.

Just out of curiosity, has the bike started cutting out when you have been out on it??..
Just wondering as quite a few FI KLX250's are doing it & wondered if yours has been to?.. it can take a bit of time to happen when riding (normally when the auto choke comes off), but when it does decide to play up, you will know as it will just cut out when sitting at traffic lights. Some people say it never happens, others like my 2 bikes just cut out all the time.

Ps, there is not much you can do with the power apart from cutting wires to fool the ecu into thinking its in neutral.. the uk bikes has a crap ecu with a nasty bug or two in them & a low power map.

Hi Big-Ed,
So far no cutting out at all, but as I've only put a couple of hundred miles on it since I got it, that isn't conclusive.
My plans for the bike are on hold a little at the moment, as my G/F's 125 got stolen yesterday, so she hasn't anything to practice for her test on.
May have to do a couple of outings on it myself, just to keep it warm for her.
