A certain amount of burble coming off throttle is normal, more noticeable with an open pipe. Stock pipes hide a lot of it. But if it's actually building up to backfires then it's problem.

I had completely tuned out the decel poping and then it came back after a while. I then realized the cap I put on the smog air intake near the exhaust outlet on the cylinder head and the vacuume ports on the stock carb for the smog junk had split and was sucking air causing the lean condition. The best fix was the block off plate I got with my big bore kit from Bill Blue and the new carb with no excess vacuume ports.

ok guys put the 132 main in. and turned the mixture in a half turn. No more chug or spit. but i still get a mean decel popping below 6k rpms? anything above that i get no popping. So my question i guess is. Can i tune the decel popping out with the mixture screw?

I've been fighting the same thing on my SF since the bike was new and stock, but the problem is not there all the time some days I have no problems other days while cruising it cuts out or chugs while running about 6,000 rpm. I was hoping a pipe and jet kit air filter upgrade and snorkel removal would fix it. I jumped from the stock 118 to the DJ kit 128 and the cut out or chug is still there. not sure what to try next. I'm at 4,000 feet.

Tune the pilot screw for best idle-1/4 slide opening. Your popping may be due to an air leak at the junction of the header pipe and the head. Air gets in there and causes the unburned gas to pop.

Im gonna order the #38 pilot. If i dont find any leaks with the header then screw it i dont mind a little bit of popping. The bike seems to be running great though.
